In these five years, I've had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Writers SA on the Deaf Writers project, where we've created a space for Deaf storytellers to thrive. Each year, we've hosted immersive residential weekends and unforgettable performances at Adelaide Writers' Week, showcasing the powerful narratives of Deaf writers. In 2022, we reached a new milestone, focusing on exploring another dimension of being a Deaf writer. A team of nine Deaf Writers from diverse backgrounds began their journey toward becoming professional storytellers, all united by a shared love for their craft.

I’ve also had the honor of being part of performances like ‘Deaf Storytellers Live’ and ‘See Me Through My Hands,’ where we told our stories in Auslan. Working alongside fellow writers, mentors, and interpreters, we’ve been able to bring our experiences to life on stage, marking a significant moment for Deaf writers in Adelaide’s literary scene. This project has been a personal and professional highlight, watching these incredible writers grow and step into their own voices.
